The Press, a weekly newspaper that covered the eastern suburban communities of Toledo for more than 50 years, has closed.
H. Kenneth Douthit III, the owner and publisher of the Press, said he could no longer fund the paper because of years of declining advertising and rising printing costs.
The free newspaper relied on advertising revenue and had planned to switch to a subscription model Sept. 21 in a last-ditch effort to survive, but Mr. Douthit said the change would not be enough…
