Rockford leaders reflect on tragedy, unity on 25-year anniversary of 9/11 attacks

ROCKFORD — In the days after the attacks on America 25 years ago, police officer Carla Redd bought lengths of red, white and blue ribbon and banded them together with an angel in the center.

Then she started handing them out to anyone who would accept one.

“I handed them out at church. I handed them out to my co-workers, anybody. I just wanted us all to be American during that time and show that solidarity,” said Redd, who began her career in 1998 and is now the city’s police chief. “May we carry that same spirit today.”…
