FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. — A quarter-century after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks reshaped the nation, memories of that Tuesday morning in 2001 remain vivid for many Americans — including a Follansbee, West Virginia, native who helped respond at the Pentagon.
The attacks unfolded on what seemed like a normal Tuesday morning, with sunshine and blue skies, before al Qaeda carried out coordinated strikes in three locations that killed 2,977 bystanders. The World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon were targeted. In Pennsylvania, airplane passengers brought down Flight 93 in Shanksville.
