Smith Mountain Lake boat procession honors lives lost on 9/11

MONETA, Va. (WSET) — First responders and community members gathered on Smith Mountain Lake for a boat memorial procession honoring the people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and the first responders who ran toward danger that day.

Boats lined up on the lake and traveled together as part of the tribute, creating a solemn reminder of the lives lost and families forever changed.

“I think anyone one of us can say now, 25 years later, exactly where we were, what we were doing at that moment when we heard about the Twin Towers being hit,” said Kim Relue, a Smith Mountain Lake resident…
