Symbols of multiple communities affected by September 11, 2001 were places at the Guardian of Defenders Memorial in Claymont Friday night.
The ceremony was keynoted by Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) who said the hijackers of the planes that struck the World Trade Center, Pentagon, along with the downed plane in Western Pennsylvania underestimated the American spirit.
“What they failed to understand about who have always been is that it’s not the buildings, it’s not the institution, it’s not the monument, it’s the heart, the spirit, the sacrifice, and the dedication of the American people that makes us who we are, who have been, and who we will be.”…
