A longtime cereal manufacturing facility has officially reached the end of its decades-long run, bringing hundreds of job losses to the Omaha area. The closure marks the end of an important chapter for a plant that has been part of the local food industry for generations.
WK Kellogg Co. has closed its Omaha, Nebraska, cereal plant after more than 60 years of operation. The facility’s final remaining employees were laid off this week as the company completed the shutdown.
Hundreds of workers lose jobs
The Omaha plant’s closure resulted in approximately 451 job losses. About 100 employees were scheduled to lose their jobs between July 6-20, followed by approximately 350 additional layoffs between August 4-18.
