COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WKRN) — The TBI is investigating after a man was hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting in Columbia Saturday morning.
According to the Columbia Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 300 block of Skyview Drive shortly after 9:30 a.m. for a report of a man firing rounds outside into the ground.
When they arrived, police said 48-year-old Matthew Kirk reportedly fired multiple rounds at officers, and one initial responding officer returned fire. Kirk then retreated inside the residence, according to CPD.

SWAT officers and crisis negotiators with CPD also responded to the scene and were able to speak with Kirk on the phone, police said.
