Prosecutors’ frustration at sentence for man who killed woman over $30

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has expressed frustration after a 66-year-old man was sentenced to “only” 128 months in prison after a judge found him guilty of murdering a woman in Minneapolis.

Raymond Jones, 66, fatally shot Desirae Argueta-Joj in the chest at close range in a dispute over $30 on Nov. 5, 2025.

Jones waived his right to a jury trial and instead requested a judge pass judgement. The judge found Jones guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, but not guilty of intentional second-degree murder…
