COLUMBUS, Ohio — The choice between burial and cremation could soon expand to include a more literal return to the earth.
House Bill 591 would legalize natural organic reduction, commonly known as human composting. The proposal seeks to establish and regulate a system for controlled decomposition to transform human remains into soil, which families would then be allowed to use for purposes like planting a memorial tree or garden.
