The FBI has taken over an investigation from Detroit Police involving Detroit activist Jahdante Smith and Marvin Walker, the former boyfriend of Mayor Mary Sheffield, the Detroit Free Press reports, citing an unnamed source. The news comes after Chief Todd Bettison came under fire for his personal intervention in the cases.
Police were investigating activist Smith and controversial shelter operator Walker in July and August. Walker, who has convictions for identity theft and forgery previously, had a romantic affair with Sheffield while she sat on the City Council.
