‘Not just a piece of metal’: Longtime Baton Rouge jeweler looks back as business changes hands

A longtime family-owned Baton Rouge jewelry business is changing ownership after more than 45 years.

Bayardo Hannon Jirón, owner of Hannon Jewelers, plans to retire and hand off the business to a former employee who is returning home. Jimmy and Stacey Butts, a husband and wife currently working in the jewelry business in Arkansas, purchased Hannon Jewelers last month for $350,000, according to sale documents.

Jirón will continue working for another year as a mentor to the duo and provide consulting and appraisal services. After crafting custom rings, earrings and necklaces in Baton Rouge for 46 years, Jirón said retirement has been on his mind for a few years, but he has been searching for the right buyer…
