Last week, to make way for a Neighborhood Walmart, one applicant requested a rezone of property located on the west side of LA Hwy 73 across from Dutchtown Middle & Primary School (the property is adjacent to and south of Dutchtown High School). Ascension Planning & Development staff recommended denial because Mixed Use zoning is not compatible to the surrounding area. The Zoning Commission, by a 5-2 vote, ignored staff’s advice and recommended approval of the request to the Parish Council.
