Every generation tries to improve on traditional treats, whether it’s putting pineapple on pizza, adding tapioca pearls to tea, or eschewing old-style custard for something called chai masala crème brûlée.
I’m OK with that. Culinary fusions make eating more interesting—but I draw the line at messing with milkshakes. Basil, rosemary, olive oil and botanicals like lavender, elderflower or hibiscus syrup should be nowhere near milk and ice cream. Yet, here we are in 2026.
There’s a cure for such heresy. Several shops across Northern Nevada still pour out the old malt-shop milkshakes, and Scooper’s makes my shakes…
