Subdivision request at historic Fotheringay site marked as pending

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A proposal to build almost 350 homes on part of a historic Montgomery County property is attempting to move through the county’s rezoning process after more than a year of revisions.

The status of the request is pending as a result of a Sept. 9 planning commission meeting.

Stateson Homes is seeking to rezone 276.66 acres near 8339 Roanoke Road in Elliston. The proposal seeks to rezone part of the land from Agricultural, or A-1, to Planned Unit Development-Residential. The original rezoning submission was submitted on March 3, 2025, and was revised in June of 2026 to offer two development options.
