NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Once known for hosting Mardi Gras balls, proms and graduations, the F.X. Jeff Sr. Municipal Auditorium in Tremé has sat vacant since Hurricane Katrina.
“My mother brought me here for my first concert. The Municipal Auditorium was the Superdome and the arena all wrapped into one. Everything that took place in both the Black and white community,” said Jackie Harris with the Save Our Soul Coalition.
However, the auditorium could soon receive new life, after FEMA agreed to extend its deadline until 2028. This allows the city to use $38 million in federal funding in order to make repairs to the auditorium…
