Winnebago County man sentenced to 42 years in prison in Rockford business theft case

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill (WTVO) — Eric Castronovo, 47, has been sentenced to 42 years in the prison system in connection with a 2024 theft case involving a Rockford business.

According to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, detectives from the Rockford Police Department began investigating Castronovo after receiving reports that he purchased Rockford Discount Rentals using checks that were later returned for insufficient funds.

Officials said Castronovo agreed to pay $435,000 for the business in October 2024, with the remaining balance due in January 2025…
