Eugene driver arrested for DUII after rear-end crash, police say

EUGENE, Ore. — A driver was arrested for a DUII in Eugene after the Eugene Police Department (EPD) responded to a crash.

At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, a woman reported to police that she had been rear-ended at West 18th Avenue and Bailey Hill Road by a Honda Accord. Police said she also believed the driver was intoxicated. Officers arrived and located 49-year-old Eugene resident Michael Deters behind the wheel.

Police said Deters answered questions unintelligibly and did not have a driver’s license or insurance. He denied drinking, but officers said he smelled heavily of alcohol. A bottle of tequila and an open, nearly empty can of a 9% alcoholic beverage were found inside the car, according to EPD…
