An Unexpected End to the Lars Tiffany Era

After taking charge of the UVA men’s lacrosse program in 2016, Lars Tiffany became one of the most successful coaches on Grounds. Inheriting the team from UVA legend Dom Starsia, coach of 24 years and four-time national champion, Tiffany had big shoes to fill.

Tiffany led the Cavaliers to a dominant record of 108-51 over 10 seasons, including two National Championships in 2019 and 2021 and four Final Four appearances. Carving out a winning legacy of his own, Tiffany cemented UVA’s lacrosse program as one of the nation’s best. His mantra of “Expect Nothing, Earn Everything” influenced the team’s culture of fast-paced and intense lacrosse.

In the 2026 season, Tiffany led the Hoos to an ACC Championship, taking down #1 Notre Dame in the semifinals and #5 North Carolina in the championship game. So, when UVA announced on May 18th that he would not be returning as the team’s head coach, the general public raised many questions regarding his sudden departure…
