MESQUITE, TX — A Dallas man died after his sedan struck the trailer of an 18-wheeler on Interstate 635 in Mesquite, according to police. The crash happened early Wednesday morning and left 36-year-old Jose Aguilar Renteria dead at the scene.
Mesquite police said the collision occurred around 3:17 a.m. on Sept. 9 in the northbound lanes near North Gross Road. Officers said Renteria was driving an Alfa Romeo sedan when it hit the trailer being pulled by a tractor-trailer driven by 30-year-old Ulises Mendez Hernandez.

Investigators said the sedan ran into the trailer while both vehicles were traveling on I-635. The truck driver was identified as Hernandez, who is from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
Mesquite police said Hernandez was driving slowly at the time of the crash. That detail has become part of the investigation as detectives work to determine exactly how the collision unfolded and what factors contributed to the fatal wreck.
