SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The University of Utah says it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding a viral photo of a student holding a cake reading “Happy Kirkiversary,” as reports of harassment and death threats against people involved in the controversy spread online.
The photo shows University of Utah sophomore Sara Larsen holding the cake on campus Sept. 10, the first anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death.
Rylie Barnes, vice president of the University of Utah College Republicans, posted the photo to her personal X account with the caption, “What is wrong with students in Utah??” The post has since received millions of views.
Larsen later apologized for her actions, and the College Republicans publicly accepted the apology on X. But in the days since, both Larsen and Barnes have been the subject of online attacks, including reported death threats…
