A motorcyclist is fighting for their life after a crash Monday evening near 32nd Street and Paradise Lane in Phoenix. The crash happened around 6:45 p.m., and the rider was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.
The collision remains under investigation, according to 12News. Details on exactly what led to the crash have not been released, and it remains unclear whether speed or impairment played a role.
A Corner With a Troubled Recent History
This isn’t the first time this stretch of 32nd Street has drawn a heavy police response. The intersection of 32nd Street and Paradise Lane was closed in March after officers shot and killed an armed 22-year-old man who had approached them with a handgun; that response began after officers were sent to the area around 2:09 a.m. following reports of gunshots.
The corridor has also seen deadly speed-related crashes before. In February 2024, a driver going 88 mph in a 45 mph zone on 32nd Street struck and killed an 87-year-old driver, and a Maricopa County grand jury indicted the 20-year-old driver for reckless manslaughter that October, as previously reported in Hoodline’s coverage of that indictment.
