WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Twenty-one years ago, Nancy Quero founded Guelaguetza Designs as a way to feel closer to her home country of Mexico. Today, the Wyoming store supports nearly 200 Mexican artisans and sells a wide range of handmade goods.
Quero grew up in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
“I grew up in between fabrics and embroiders and all kinds of colors,” she told News 8. “My mom has been making mostly children clothing for over 40 years. So I grew up seeing her doing all the work that she’s been doing and instilling (in) me all that love for my culture and the appreciation of the handmade items.”

At the age of 19, she moved to the United States.
“When you move to a new country, just a lot of things are missing from your life because you leave behind a lot of things,” she said. “Family, friends, food — there’s just so many things. And having something that is handmade in my country, it just makes a difference.”…
