Newly appointed Baldwin High principal reassigned after loaded gun found in vehicle on school campus: DCPS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Newly appointed Baldwin Middle-Senior High School Principal Michael Smith was reassigned to his home Tuesday after a loaded firearm was found in his vehicle on campus, Duval County Public Schools officials said.

The district received an anonymous tip that a firearm may be in Smith’s vehicle. Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier directed Duval County School Police Chief Jackson Short to investigate. A loaded firearm was found in the vehicle’s center console, inside a holster, Short said during a news conference.

Officials said the situation did not appear to involve an intent to cause harm. However, firearms are prohibited on school campuses…
