Utah weather: Seasonal temperatures with increasing chances for isolated thunderstorms

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! We will begin to warm up this week, with isolated rain chances making a return. The highest chances will likely occur Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Today’s forecast

Our Tuesday afternoon will feature partly sunny skies. A little moisture will begin to work across areas of eastern Utah. This will lead to a few more widely scattered showers and storms. The best chances for this activity will be from East I-15 and near I-70.

Pockets of flash flooding will be possible with any slow-moving thunderstorms. An elevated flood threat is placed across areas near the Mighty 5. High temperatures will warm back to near-normal levels in the low 80s across the Wasatch Front. Highs will warm into the mid-90s across southwest Utah.

Looking ahead

A bigger surge of moisture from the southeast will help increase the chance for scattered showers and storms Wednesday afternoon across places like the Wasatch Back, Uintas, and Castle Country. We will introduce a slight chance across portions of the I-15 corridor.

Due to a stout upper-level low approaching, a few storms could be on the strong side with damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and small hail. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined parts of the Wasatch Front, Wasatch Back, and Castle Country under a Marginal “Level 1 of 5” risk for severe weather Wednesday afternoon.

High temperatures will be in the mid-80s along the Wasatch Front. Highs will climb into the mid-90s for southwest Utah.

The best chance for scattered showers and storms will come on Thursday. Right now, looks like isolated storm chances across the Wasatch Front and I-15 corridor, with more numerous showers and storms for areas east of I-15. High temperatures will remain in the mid 80s across the Wasatch Front. Highs will remain in the lower 90s across SW Utah.

Weekend warmth

Slightly cooler and drier air looks to return to the region for our Friday, and through the upcoming weekend. Look for mostly sunny skies and refreshing conditions. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s across the Wasatch Front. Highs will warm into the low to mid 90s for SW Utah…
