A 33-year-old Richmond man received a four-year prison sentence for a 2022 drunk-driving crash that killed his cousin, but court records show the sentence had already been satisfied through custody and conduct credits when it was imposed. Juan Hipolito-Gudino entered a plea deal in July 2026 and was sentenced in the February 5, 2022, death of Crescencio Barrientos Blanco.
Hipolito-Gudino pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and to drunk driving, according to court records cited by The Mercury News. He received about two years of jail credit, which was doubled to four years through good-behavior credits, court records show.
The case stems from a February 2022 crash in Richmond that killed Barrientos Blanco, Hipolito-Gudino’s cousin. Prosecutors alleged that Hipolito-Gudino was driving drunk when the crash occurred, according to Mercury News reporting.
A Second DUI Arrest Before Charges Were Even Filed
Hipolito-Gudino was not charged until July 2024, more than two years after the fatal crash, according to court records.
