Minneapolis Public Schools announce plans that include closing up to 16 schools

MINNEAPOLIS — In an hours-long meeting Tuesday, Minneapolis Public Schools revealed new plans to potentially close more than a dozen schools including Bethune, Lake Harriet Lower, Longfellow, and Hiawatha.

The proposals were met with outbursts from the crowd at a packed meeting, as the district continues to face enrollment declines and a nearly $40 million budget deficit.
