Columbus asks residents to help fight illegal dumping in Oakland Park, Benning Hills

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus city leaders are continuing a campaign against illegal dumping and are asking residents to help identify people responsible, focusing on the Oakland Park and Benning Hills neighborhoods in South Columbus.

Residents describe ongoing problem

Neighbors in Oakland Park and Benning Hills said illegal dumping has been an issue for years. Piles of old tires, furniture and trash have become a common sight in the area.

“That littering aspect, it’s rough down here — tires, and anywhere where there is an empty house, they will just throw that right there,” one resident said.

Another resident pointed to a pile of trash and furniture that had sat near her home for weeks…
