SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Fire Department paid tribute to the members of an NBC Los Angeles News helicopter crew who died in a crash Tuesday. The helicopter went down while covering a fatal L.A. Metro bus crash in Chatsworth Tuesday evening.
The helicopter went down just before 7 p.m., going down in a fiery crash that killed reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and an unidentified third person on the ground. Two people also died in the bus crash, while another six were hospitalized with injuries.

“To the NBC Los Angeles news team and NBC News nationwide,” wrote San Francisco Fire in a lengthy tweet Wednesday. “We write with heavy hearts after the helicopter crash in Chatsworth. Your NewsChopper crews go out every day to keep the public informed, often putting themselves in harm’s way to do so, just like the aircrews and first responders who work alongside them.”
“The public safety community stands with you right now,” the post continued. “We grieve alongside you for journalists Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and the member of the public who was lost on the ground. We are also keeping the bystanders who were injured and hospitalized in our thoughts as they recover.”
