A historic county jail that has been owned by one family for the last 100 years has officially sold for $400,000.
Located in Perrysburg, Ohio, the Old Wood County Jail was first built in 1847 for just $1,250, and it served as the local jail until 1870. Listing agent Caroline Hoffmann of The Danberry Co. tells PEOPLE the property has been in her family since 1924 and she’s lived there for the past few years with her mother, the seller, until she bought a home down the street.
The historic building was converted into a private residence in 1957 and still contains the six original jail cells located in the current layout’s dining room toward the back of the first floor.
Hoffmann says she’s “thrilled” the new owners intend to keep using her family’s longtime property as a private residence while giving it “the glow up it deserves.”…
