AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – A man convicted of murder in the November 2023 death of 23-year-old Aung Oo in northeast Amarillo was sentenced to 35 years in prison, after entering a plea agreement in late July.
According to court documents, Aung Thuya appeared in court in Potter County for a plea hearing in late July, where he pleaded guilty to one count of murder. In accordance with the plea agreement, Thuya was sentenced to 35 years in custody in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The sentencing comes after Thuya was indicted on one count of murder in December 2023, following Oo’s death on Nov. 12, 2023. At the time, officers reported responding to a “shooting incident” in the 6500 block of NE 12th, after Oo was shot outside his vehicle. Oo was hospitalized, but later died from his injuries.
