AUSTIN – Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announced that the first two Medal of Honor (MOH) memorial services happened at the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock. The services took place last week and marked the first time recipients of the MOH were memorialized at any VLB cemeteries.
The recipients were Lieutenant Colonel George Davis of the U.S. Air Force, and First Lieutenant Frank Nicias Mitchell of the U.S. Marine Corps, both joining from Texas. Both men exemplified courage, tenacity, and indomitable fighting spirit, and gave their lives heroically in combat.
“The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration of the United States Armed Forces and is given to those who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor.
