Don Drumm Studios, Gallery highlights 55 years with upcoming exhibition

AKRON — Don Drumm Studios and Gallery is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. To celebrate the milestone, the gallery is hosting an exhibition, “Reflections: A Drumm Retrospective,” which runs Sept. 26 through Oct. 24. The exhibition is free and open to the public. There will be an opening reception Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature light refreshments.

Don Drumm was born in Warren in 1935. After studying medicine for two years at Hiram College, he decided to pursue a career in art. He transferred to Kent State University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Art. He worked as a designer for the industrial design firm Smith, Scherr and McDermott for two years before opening his own studio near The University of Akron in 1960.

Together with his wife, Lisa, the couple expanded the studio to include a gallery in 1971…
