BETHLEHEM — The Town Board has backed away from some of the most dramatic changes in its proposed updates to the town’s zoning law after pausing the process over the summer.
The changes come after a monthslong outcry over the proposal, which would have made it easier to build multifamily housing across a wide section of the town, largely south of Route 32, where the land had previously been zoned for single-family homes.
The process, which appeared to be heading to a final vote until it was paused in July, has dominated town politics for the last seven months as hundreds of residents, largely in the Glenmont neighborhood, pushed back against changes they argue would adversely alter the character of their community as open spaces would be subject to large-scale development…
