EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — For two hours, a full town board chambers in East Greenbush was host to a public hearing, giving residents, law enforcement and a Flock Safety official a platform to voice their opinions on automated license plate reader cameras.

Town Supervisor Jack Conway was one of the two current board members who voted on the cameras when they were first being discussed. Despite his view on the automated license plate readers, Conway said he called the meeting because he wanted the three newer members who weren’t a part of the vote to hear all sides.
“I voted no on them, and I’ll vote no again,” Conway said.

Currently, five Flock Safety cameras are in operation in East Greenbush. Wednesday night, a Flock representative gave a presentation explaining how the technology works. He laid out what the cameras do and what they don’t do.
According to the Flock official, the cameras take a picture of a car on a public road, capturing the make, model and the rear license plate. Every search is permanent. What he said they don’t do is recognize faces…
