‘It’s just like we on a waiting game’: Evansville tenant says apartment hits 87 degrees as AC stays broken

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – As heat-related illnesses climb 260% across the Tri-State since last year at this time, one Evansville woman says she’s fighting a dangerous heat problem of her own — inside her own apartment.

Bernadette Wickliffe has lived at Schnute Apartments on West Franklin Street for eight years. She says the air conditioning in the building has been out for six days.

“No air. It’s burning up. It’s 87 degrees on my thermostat. Don’t tell me what the rest of the building is reading, considering that I live on the 2nd floor,” Wickliffe said…
