Gas prices hit $5 in Grand Rapids area amid refinery power outage, Iran war

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Gas hit $5 per gallon in the Grand Rapids area Thursday morning amid rising prices.

A News 8 crew spotted the $5.01 price for regular unleaded fuel at a gas station at the intersection of Alpine Road and 6 Mile Road in Comstock Park. Still, the average price of regular unleaded in the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland area is sitting at $4.83 per gallon, according to AAA.

The highest recorded average gas price in Michigan for regular unleaded fuel was $5.22 in June of 2022, AAA says, about four months after Russia invaded Ukraine.
