Cosplay guests, costume contest, and artist vendors make waves in the Coastal Bend community
StarCon is finally here! On September 5th, Corpus Christi hosted its first-ever one-day anime and artist convention. At the Portland Community Center, fans lined up outside the doors for the 1 p.m. opening, some in full cosplay and others carrying art portfolios or trading card decks. The Saturday event celebrated local artists and fandoms such as Adventure Time, The Wolverine, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Organized by the Starving Artist Collective, the event took place inside the community center, where fans were immediately welcomed by various creative vendors. One of the most popular stops was The Slime Bar. Attendees could build their own slime by choosing a base, textured toppings, and mix-ins before sealing their unique slime to take home. The booth featured a pastel display of various slime containers, charms, and sprinkles, adding a playful, hands-on activity.
