(TNS) — Several crashes involving robotaxis happened in Austin in recent weeks, including a collision with an e-biker that Austin Police Department were called to investigate.
Statewide, 22 crashes were reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the four weeks ending August 17, eight of which happened in Austin. The other Texas crash that resulted in an investigation was a fatal collision in Dallas, in which a pedestrian was first struck by a human-driven SUV before making contact with an autonomous vehicle.
The latest collisions are being reported as a slew of new robotaxis enter the Texas market. Just ahead of Tesla Inc.’s launch of its new Cybercab, the company registered more vehicles in Texas, reaching a total of 439 vehicles.
