LUBBOCK, Texas — September 17, 2026, marks 40 years since Texas Tech University student and U.S. Army veteran Tim Cole was wrongfully convicted of an aggravated sexual assault of a female student.
EverythingLubbock.com spoke to Cory Session, Tim Cole’s brother, who was attending the University of Texas at the time he heard the news.
“School had just started, and I got the phone call from my mother that they had convicted him. It was devastating,” Session said. “It was absolute disbelief that the criminal justice system would have what we would now know as a travesty of justice. We knew then you had the wrong person. And we knew then you probably knew you had the wrong person. But yet you chose to proceed.”…
