Manassas leaders are grappling this week with the future of widely-attended outdoor events in the wake of a “First Friday” festival shooting that left a 16-year-old girl dead.
One decision has already been made: The city and Historic Manassas Inc. are cancelling October’s “Second Friday” after the Sept. 4 slaying of Ashley Intihar, the Patriot High School student killed in an exchange of gunfire.
Intihar, an innocent bystander, was shot outside the train depot in Old Town during the event that saw an estimated 10,000 people fill the city’s streets and sidewalks. Three men – Tasheem Rashad Douglas, 21, of Prince William County, Talib Davis, 21, of Remington and Xavier Wanzer, 19, of Unionville – have been charged in the killing.
