Killed on his 18th birthday: West Ashley family still searching for answers

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A West Ashley family is still searching for answers 13 years after their loved one was killed just minutes into his birthday.

Just after midnight Oct. 8, 2013, Charleston Police rushed to Forbes Avenue in the Maryville community for reports of gunshots. When they got there, they found Malcolm Jefferson II with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

He had just turned 18. Following that, the family has held vigils, walks in protest of gun violence and revisited the scene of the crime.

Now, 13 years later, his mother Monica Jefferson still can’t give birthday wishes to her son and hasn’t seen his killer in a courtroom…
