Scattered storms return this weekend, big cool down next week

COLUMBIA, S.C. — After a refreshingly cool start Thursday morning, temperatures warmed quickly into the low 90s across the Midlands this afternoon.

Friday will turn even hotter and more humid, with highs climbing into the mid 90s before changes begin arriving later in the day.

Moisture will increase as an upper-level low moves west toward Florida and the upper-level ridge over the Southeast shifts farther west.

This will place the Carolinas along the edge of the ridge, allowing disturbances to move through and helping scattered showers and thunderstorms develop Friday evening.

The greatest concern Friday will be near and north of I-20, where a few storms could produce localized damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall…
