MONROEVILLE, Ohio (WJW) — Monroeville is now home to Ohio’s largest floating solar system, and it’s not the one in outer space.
According to a release from PR Newswire, the village of about 1,300 people is home to the fifth-largest collection of floating solar panels in the nation. D3Energy has energized a 6-megawatt, or six million watts, of electrical power through a floating solar array on top of Monroeville’s reservoir.

The floating solar system features over 9,000 solar panels, which span over three floating islands. The energy harvested feeds Monroeville’s distribution grid.
Since 2021, roughly a third of Ohio’s 88 counties have restricted utility-scale solar after a state law gave counties their own authority.

The floating array is Monroeville’s second large-scale solar project, as the village also has a 4-megawatt ground-mounted array that has been functioning since 2017.
