Michigan man not guilty of careless discharge after stray bullet strikes neighbor in head

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — A 29-year-old Richland Township man has been found not guilty after he allegedly shot his neighbor while target practicing on his property last fall.

Stoffer Mason Smit was found not guilty by a jury of careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death, Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Williams confirmed on Thursday, Sept. 17.
