Defiant driver caught behind wheel two times in Eastport area

A 39-year-old Leesburg man was arrested after he was caught driving in the Eastport area just seven minutes after a police officer warned him his license was suspended.

Kyle Garan Espenship was driving a white pickup truck at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, when he was pulled over near the intersection of Bexley Trail and Corbin Trail, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. During the traffic stop, an officer informed Espenship that his driver’s license was not valid and he was not legally permitted to operate a motor vehicle. Espenship acknowledged he could not drive, removed the keys from the ignition and stated he was going to get a ride.

However, at 11:25 a.m. — just seven minutes later — the same officer was stationary on McNeill Drive and spotted Espenship driving the same white pickup truck northbound on Bexley Trail. The officer initiated a second traffic stop.

A records check confirmed Espenship’s license was suspended. Because he had just been explicitly warned by the officer not to drive, he was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license…
