Vero Beach animal hospital manager accused of reclaiming cats, abandoning them outside

VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Vero Beach animal hospital manager was arrested after investigators said she reclaimed two cats from the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, then abandoned them outdoors without care.

Deanna Rae Wesley, 43, was arrested Sept. 15 on an active warrant charging her with two counts of animal abandonment, both first-degree misdemeanors, according to Indian River County court records.

Animal Control investigators said Wesley, who works at Dr. Dan’s Animal Hospital, picked up two white-and-brown tabby cats from the Humane Society on Sept. 8. Wesley reportedly told staff the cats were being returned to a caregiver, but she would not identify that person, the affidavit said…
