Mosquitoes from 4 RI cities test positive for West Nile virus

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The risk level for West Nile virus remains “high” in Rhode Island as we head into fall.

State health and environmental officials announced Thursday that mosquito samples collected Sept. 8 in East Providence, Newport, Pawtucket and Providence tested positive for the virus.

Throughout mosquito season, which runs all the way through summer and fall, the state gathers samples from different areas each week and tests them for West Nile virus, eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and other diseases they can carry. Those results are posted here…
