Coast Guard alerts public to emergency exercise set for San Diego Bay

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Law enforcement, emergency crews and air crews will be conducting an emergency response exercise in San Diego Bay on Thursday.

Bay Shield 2026 is taking place in San Diego on Sept. 17, and the Coast Guard is alerting the public they may see increased emergency vehicles and boats, aircrafts and law enforcement in and around San Diego Bay. There will also be simulated gunfire and radio communications as well as other simulated response activities taking place.

The full-scale emergency response exercise will be conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard and federal, state, local and maritime industry partners to help agencies enhance response plans and partner coordination for times of an emergency.
