BART delays hit San Francisco after plastic debris catches fire near 24th Street Mission Station

BART riders faced major delays Thursday afternoon after a piece of plastic debris caught fire in the trackway near 24th Street Mission Station, temporarily disrupting service on the San Francisco line.

The fire was not caused by BART equipment, a spokesperson for the agency said.

BART was recovering from the incident as of 3:28 p.m., with a 20-minute delay on the San Francisco line in the Berryessa direction and a 10-minute delay toward Antioch, according to the agency’s latest service alerts…
