Child Critically Burned While Playing With Sanitizer, Alcohol, Lighter

A family member speaking with BocaNewsNow.com says that Elian may soon be released from the hospital but has months — if not more — of recovery in front of him. A GoFundMe has been created to help the family. We’re linking to it below. The GoFundMe organization reached out to BocaNewsNow.com to share Elian’s story.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that Palm Beach County Fire Rescue was called to the child’s home late on the night of the September 7th incident — apparently after other family members had gone to bed. That’s when Elian and his older brother mixed the alcohol and hand sanitizer, then ignited a lighter. A burst of flames engulfed Elian’s shirt. His brother immediately pushed him into the shower in an effort to extinguish what was burning. Another family member who woke up after hearing the commotion called 911.

Elian was rushed to Saint Mary’s Medical Center where the team stabilized the child, then transferred him to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Read the GoFundMe campaign here…
